in the
re-opened grounds of the storm hit park. Start time is at 11am so

These events are mainly aimed at encouraging beginner runners,

involved in Couch to 5km, Fit4Youth and Fit4life programmes to take up
the

over longer
distances than normal for fitness. The OPW staff
have
worked hard to restore the grounds in time for our event so sincere
thanks goes
to them for ensuring our event can go ahead as planned. The same
traditional
course as usual will be used with the start line at the old gate across
the
road from the Secondary school. The finish will be in front of the main

26 – South Munster Schools Cross Country
Congratulations
to
all prizewinners and
qualifiers for the Munster
Schools Championship on Thursday February back at Cork IT. It was great
to see
such large numbers taking part and it would surely be beneficial to all
if
teachers could encourage participants not particularly very involved in
other
sports to join their local athletic club.
The
results are not 100% accurate due mainly
to incorrect numbers being assigned to the wrong athlete and of course
late
entries on the day do not help the administrative process either.
A
very big thank you to
the large number of volunteer officials who turn up to assisted in
parking
duties, course construction (and destruction afterwards!),
administration
tent entries and results, start officials, finish marshals and
recorders and
course stewards.
Finally
on everybody's
behalf the Munster Agricultural Society deserve our debt of gratitude
allowing
the use of their lands.
January
25 – County AGM
Following
the county AGM today there are a
number of positions on the board,
nominations for
these positions are invited, to be sent to the secretary prior to the

January
21 – Celtic Cross
Country Report & AAI Combined Events
Celtic
Cross Country International
A
great day for Cork Juvenile Athletes at the
Celtic Cross Country International in Antrim on Saturday 4th
January
2014 where Fearghal
Curtin of Youghal
AC representing Ireland gained some measure of compensation for his
unlucky run
in Santry
with a well-deserved win in the boys
u17 race and in doing so led the Irish lads to team gold. Fellow Cork
Athlete Cathal Mc Carthy Doheny
AC ran a great race to finish eight in the u17 race
and was a member of the Irish winning team. Ruairi
Casey Togher AC was a
member of the boy’s u17 Irish
Development squad and ran a race full of promise to finish tenth and
was first
of his team home.
Fiona
Everard Bandon
AC was a member of the girl’s u17 development squad which finished
third team.
It’s
a tremendous honour to represent your
Country and well done to all who competed.
National
Combined Events medals for Cork
Juvenile Athletes
The
Woodies DIY AAI
juvenile combined events were held on Saturday 11th
January 2014 in
the AIT Arena Athlone.
Vickie Cusack Liscarroll
AC is National Champion in the girl’s u15
category and achieved a personal milestone when exceeding 3000 points
for the
first time. Aishling
Cassidy Bandon AC competed very
well to claim the bronze medal in the girl’s u14.
Well
done to all athletes who competed on the
day.
January
19 – Schools Cross Country Venue Change
The venue for next
Friday’s
South Munster schools’ cross country championships has had to be
changed to the
Munster Agricultural Society (MAS) grounds at Curraheen.
The
most suitable way to access this venue
particularly for buses is to use the N42 (main road from Cork to
Killarney
the old N25) and leave at Exit 2 signed for Curraheen.
Take the road for Curraheen
at the next roundabout
and after about 1km the course is on the right-hand side of the road.
All
vehicles must park in
the MAS fields. There is adequate hard standing for cars and busses. A
one-way
system will apply. Follow stewards
directions.
Only
limited toilet
facilities no spiked shoes in the toilets allowed. There will be no
changing
or showering facilities available on site. It should be possible to use
the
facilities at Cork IT if desired. Participants are advised to
come dressed
for competition with tracksuit etc. and have a dry set of gear for
afterwards.
Buses and cars will be parked very adjacent to the course.
A
map of the course will
be provided later this week to those schools entered.
The
timetable and
distances remain as outlined on the original information. The first 6
individuals will receive their medals immediately on finishing their
race. Team
medals can be collected at the administration tent as soon as results
are
posted up.
Competition
information
and entry forms are attached for your information if you have not
