Juvenile PRO Report on National Juvenile Even Age Championships,
Dundalk IT, Dundalk, Co Louth, Sunday November 23rd 2014
On Sunday 23rd
November 2014, cross country enthusiasts from all over the country
travelled to Dundalk IT, where the All Ireland even age cross country
championships were held, and again Cork Juveniles acquitted themselves
very well. Many of our juveniles won individual medals, with Caoimhe
Harrington, Bantry AC, running a superb race to come home in front, in
the girl’s U-16 race, to claim her fourth National Cross Country title
to date.
Of the 8 juvenile races to take place, Cork captured 7 county team
prizes, with many of our athletes helping Munster to capture Provincial
team prizes.
Girls U-12
Sarah Morrison, St
Nicholas, finished 5th, closely
followed in 6th by Mallaidh O’Neill, Skibbereen, and they were well
supported by Emma Landers, Youghal, Shannon Cotter, West Muskerry, Jane
Buckley, Bandon, and Rebecca Harrington, Bantry, to claim team gold for
Cork with Sarah, Mallaidh and Emma part of the Munster team to take
team silver.
Boys U-12
There was further
success here for the Cork team, finishing
3rd. The scoring 6 were John O’Flynn, North Cork, Diarmuid Healy,
Midleton, Keelan Crowley, Bandon, Jack O’Neill,Skibbereen, John
Fitzgerald, Carrig na bhFear, and Ben Atkinson, Carrig na bhFear. John
and Diarmuid were members of the Munster team that took team gold.
Girls U-14
Ursula Bluett, North
Cork, Grainne Egan, North Cork,
Jennifer Cotter, West Muskerry, Lucy O’Keeffe, Youghal, Sarah Kelleher,
West Muskerry, and Grainne Mulcahy, Bandon, ran well here to help Cork
to team silver
Boys U-14
The Cork team were to
the fore here again, with Jake
McCarthy, Youghal, Christopher O’Reilly, Togher, Conor O’Neill, West
Muskerry, Jack O’Shea, Midleton, Joseph Daly, Carrig na bhFear, and
Ruairi Manning, North Cork, finishing 2nd. Jake, Christopher, Conor and
Jack also helped Munster capture the team silver.
Girls U-16
Caoimhe Harrington,
Bantry, produced a powerful display of
running again to capture the girls U-16 National title. She was ably
assisted by Carina Crowley, Bandon, Laura Hayes, St Catherines, Laura
Nicholson, Bandon, Christine O’Flynn, Carrig na bhFear, and Katie
Walsh, Carrig na bhFear, to take the bronze team medal for Cork.
Boy’s U-16
Darragh McElhinney,
Bantry, ran a race full of promise
to finish in 5th place, in a race which he was running up in age. He
was followed closely by Charlie O’Donovan, Leevale. Both Darragh and
Charlie helped Munster to team silver.
Girl’s U-18
There was a fine
performance by Rhona Pierce, Leevale, to
take the bronze medal, and in doing so, helped secure with her
clubmates the club team gold. Rhona, along with Maeve Ahern, Leevale,
Louise Shanahan, Leevale, Fiona Everard, Bandon, Karen Twomey, Leevale,
and Sinead Caulfield, Bandon, won team silver for Cork. Munster took
team silver.
Boy’s U-18
David Fox, Leevale,
ran a fine race, to finish in 6th
position. Along with Fearghal Curtin, Youghal, Evan Byrne, Togher, Gary
O’Sullivan, West Muskerry, Billy Cronin, West Muskerry, and Dylan
O’Connor, Skibbereen, the team silver for Cork. David, Fearghal, Evan
and Garry were members of the Munster team that won Provincial silver
Congratulations and well done to all who were lucky enough to secure
National medals and well done to everyone who contributed to excellent
competition on the day.
