AAI Course Measurement Certification - Call for Candidates in West Cork

AAI would like to qualify and certify more measurers from "deepest west Cork".  At the moment, there are no certified measurers west of Clonakilty, even though there are quite a few races in the area, so we would like to qualify a few more.

Normally, certification courses are specially organised and run on a classroom & practical basis.  On this occassion, John Quigley, IAAF Grade 'B' Measurer is due to measure a new race course on the Beara penninsula and it is proposed to run a 'hands on' certification course in conjunction with this.

The course normally takes about 6 hours in all.  This one may take a little longer, due to the actual race course measurement, and all that goes with it.

The measurement is due to take place in the next 4 to 5 weeks, and day/date is open.  First preference is a Monday (NOT the Bank Holiday!), failing that Tuesday or Wed.  However the most likely day to suit potential measurers is a Saturday.   The feast is moveable.  If there are no takers, it will be run to suit ourselves, while if there are candidates, it will be run onb a day that suits them.

Each candidate must supply their own bike, along with a toolkit - they will have to attach a Jones Counter to their front wheel, so spanners are essential.  Notebook, biro(s) & calculator are also essential.

Jones Counters can be supplied. These cost approx. €160 each to buy from AAI and normally clubs buy them.  If cost is a problem, perhaps two, or more, of the local clubs might chip in together.  There may also be a nominal AAI charge for documentation. It is hoped that Cork AAI will cover this, but that has yet to be dealt with.

NB: This is for measurers from the local clubs.  As this will be a working measurement, a MAXIMIM of 3 candidates will be accepted.
