Development Officer

JOB DESCRIPTION
LOCATION: Cork Institute of
Technology
RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties include:
• To organise and deliver innovative programmes to
attract new participants at all levels and create pathways for
continued participation within athletics both within the Institute and
wider Cork Community.
• To create and implement a quality programme of
coaching, as required by the student athletics club, to maximise
participation and performance of competitive teams.
• To provide administrative and technical support to
the Institutes athletics club
• To link with Athletics Ireland and Athletics
Association of Ireland (AAI) Cork County Board to position the delivery
of CIT athletics programmes within the wider sporting context.
• To assist the Athletics Association of Ireland
(AAI) Cork County Board in driving its activities and achieving its
goals locally.
• To assist Athletics Ireland in promoting its
programmes and achieving its goals in the region.
• To implement appropriate Health and Safety policies
and procedures in order to ensure a safe, effective and friendly
environment at all times.
• Promote and increase awareness of athletics at Cork
Institute of Technology.
• Assist in the organisation of designated athletics
events.
• Liaise with relevant staff and student officers to
agree facility availability and access for the delivery of all sessions.
• Provide the supervisory board with concise progress
reports relating to agreed quarterly and annual work programme
scheduling.
• Establish and maintain effective partnerships with
local stakeholders, & relevant partners.
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to
time.
KEY QUALITIES
Essential
• Higher Diploma/Degree level qualification in a
sports related area or equivalent.
• Level 1 Athletics Coaching Qualification or
equivalent athletics experience and ideally, experience in dealing with
volunteers/organisations/athletics events in a support capacity.
• Strong working knowledge of excel, word and email.
• Excellent written and verbal
communication/presentation skills.
• Ability to work on their own initiative and as part
of a team.
• Well-developed time management skills including the
ability to set and meet deadlines and to prioritise work.
Desirable
• Hold a Level 2 Athletics Coaching Qualification.
• Hold a valid First Aid Certificate.
• Experience of mentoring and/or supervising
volunteers/coaches.
• Experience of organising athletics or sports
related events.
CIRCUMSTANCES
• Ability and willingness to work unsociable hours
from time to time, including evenings and weekends.
• Holds a full Driver’s Licence and has access to own
transport for work purposes.
• Available and willing to undertake training
necessary for the post.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
• Maintain effective relationships with the Institute
Sports and Development Officers, AAI Regional Developments Officers,
Athletics Association of Ireland Cork County Board and those members of
other organisations or volunteers who are also contributing to the
development of athletics within the province.
• Carry out duties and responsibilities within
limited supervision.
• Portray a competent and professional image.
