Juvenile PRO Report on Munster Juvenile Even Age Championships,
Turnpike, Two
Mile Borris, Co. Tipperary, Sunday October 26th 2014
Over 797 juvenile athletes competed, on Sunday 26th October, in the
Munster Juvenile even age Championships in Two Mile Borris, Co
Tipperary. Our Cork Juveniles competed very well winning no less than 6
of the 10 individual titles on offer with the County team taking 6
titles and 4 runners up positions. Cork clubs were also to the fore in
the inter club team prizes, securing 9 prizes. The event was well
organised and the absence of hills led to some very quick races.
In the girls u10 there was a great performance by Avril Millerick
Youghal AC to take the silver medal in a competitive field and in doing
so helped Youghal to team silver. Cork took the County silver.
In the boys u10 James O'Neill West Muskerry had to settle for the
silver medal in a race which had one of the largest number of
competitors on the day. Midleton secured the team bronze and Cork the
County team silver.
In the girls u12 there was a second and third for our Cork Juveniles
with Sarah Morrison St. Nicholas the silver and Mallaidh O’Neill
Skibbereen the bronze. Bandon won team silver with Cork the County team
gold.
John O’Flynn North Cork ran a great race to capture Corks first
individual title of the day in the boy’s u12 and Cork secured team
silver.
In the girls u14 there was a good result for North Cork AC athletes
with Ursula Bluett the gold and club mate Grainne Egan the bronze. West
Muskerry won the team bronze and Cork the team gold.
In the boys u14 Christopher O’Reilly Togher took bronze, West Muskerry
the team silver and Cork the team gold.
Caoimhe Harrington Bantry produced a great front running performance to
win the girls u16 title and helped Cork to team silver.
Darragh McElhinney Bantry made every post a winning one and was not
for catching in the boy’s u16 race with Charlie O Donovan Leevale
chasing him home in third place. Cork with 4 athletes in the first 8
secured the team gold with Leevale runners up in the club team event.
There was a Leevale clean sweep in the girl’s u18 race with Rhonda
Pierce the winner from Louise Shanahan the silver and Maeve Ahern the
bronze. Leevale were comfortable winners of the club team title and
Cork the team gold.
Fearghal Curtin Youghal was a good winner of the boy’s u18 title with
Evan Byrne Togher taking the bronze medal and both were members of the
victorious Cork team.
Well done to all our Cork athletes who competed on the day with some
excellent performances and the best of luck in the All Ireland series
ahead.
