In the boys u12
high jump Eoghan Nash, Belgooly AC, secured the silver
medal and also in the boys u12 600m there was a great run by John
O'Flynn, North
Cork AC, to take bronze. The girl’s u13 javelin was of a high standard
with
Niamh Sugrue, Bandon AC, the silver from Emily Linehan, North Cork AC,
the bronze.
There was a superb gold for Ciara Sheehy, Liscarroll AC, in the girls
u13 shot.
In the girls u14 javelin there was silver for Shauna Linehan, North
Cork AC, with
bronze for Kaithlyn Coffey, Leevale AC, in the girls u14 800m. John
Forde, Midleton
AC, was in good form in the boys u14 high jump and finished third.
The boys u15
high jump produced a new championship record with Ben
Donovan, Abbey Striders AC, taking the gold with a jump of 1.81m with
his club
mate Diarmuid Clancy taking the bronze medal in the boys u16 250m
hurdles. Conor
O'Driscoll, Leevale AC, ran a very courageous race in the boys u16 800m
and in
the end had to settle for silver. Travis Coomey, Bandon AC, took bronze
in the
boys u16 hammer. André Christie, Leevale AC, was a comfortable winner
of the boy’s
u17 hammer title. Louise Shanahan, Leevale AC, showed a tremendous turn
of speed
in the home straight to win the girl’s u18 800m title. Scott Gibson,
Bandon AC,
stayed on powerfully to the line to win the boy’s u18 400m title. In
the girls
u19 long jump Grace McKenzie, Belgooly AC, was in good form in taking
the silver
medal.
The boy’s u19
category there were two titles for Cork athletes with a
tremendous front running performance by Liam Hennessy, Togher AC, in
the 800m to
take gold. Promise Okafor, Bandon AC, claimed the boy’s u19 triple jump
title by
producing a competition best with his final jump.
