starting @ 1pm with the junior race. The race this year is taking place
in a venue that is owned by the county board, purchased with the proceeds of

the home of athletics in Cork. Fantastic work has been done by the
committee charged with developing the venue.
Medal winners on Sunday will

competition to be held at the venue.
Last years

October 20 – Defibrillator
In the past 6 years, defibrillators have been used at least twice in life saving situations, in Cork AAI permitted
events. In both cases the athletes recovered,
thanks both to the availability of Defibrillators and also trained operators.
It's worth noting that in each case, the defibrillators were supplied by third
parties. Many clubs now have their own defibrillators, but others do
not.
*Yes
Defibrillators are relatively expensive, but if required, they are
absolutely priceless. *
Someday, a Defibrillator will again be required at one of our events
Will we be ready?

May 30 – County Juvenile T&F
There were over 1600 entries for the Cork County Juvenile
Track & Field Championships held at CIT on Sunday 5th May and
Sunday 12th May. The Championships were run efficiently and this was
helped by the wonderful preparation of our athletes by the various club coaches
and officials who give of their time voluntarily. Also the board members and
club officials who helped at the various disciplines over the two days were
vital in the efficient running of the events.
This year saw the introduction of the turbo javelin instead
of the ball throw for our younger athletes and the windy conditions did not
deter them from enjoying the competition.
There was some
tremendous competition over the two days in all age groups and congratulations to
everyone who took part, those lucky enough to secure County Medals and best of
luck to all our Cork Juvenile Athletes in the forthcoming Munster
Championships.

– Celtic International Cross Country
Cork athletes Fearghal Curtin and Luke
Horgan win Gold team medals on Irish U17
Team.
Fearghal Curtin
(Youghal AC) and Luke Horgan
(Leevale AC) competed on the U17 Irish team at the Celtic International Cross
Country race in Cardiff on Sunday 20th January. Thankfully the flight departed
with both the U17 Girls and Boys teams from Dublin on Saturday morning with
only a minor delay despite severe weather conditions in Wales. A snow
covered ground greeted them on arrival much to the delight of the athletes. The
race was held at Blackweir Fields, Cardiff right
across the road from their hotel. The venue resembled a ski resort on Sunday
as there had been very heavy snowfall. This made it heavy going for the
lads as they had a gruelling 5,650m run a lot of which was through woodland
with underfoot conditions difficult and very chilly. However all the
athletes gave a great account of themselves and won
the team event beating Scotland by two points; Wales and Ulster also had
teams. First in were Kevin Mulcaire (Ennis
Track) 3rd, Pierre Murchan (Celtic DSD) 4th both
given a time of 19.47 as they were so close; next in was Fearghal
Curtin of Youghal AC 6th 20.07 and Luke Horgan of Leevale 10th 20.46. This was a brilliant
achievement for this team and especially for the Cork athletes Fearghal and Luke. Well done also to the girls team which
were also victorious and to Siofra O’ Flaherty who
won the race; her team included Eimear Fitzpatrick , Isobel Odlum
and Aoife Mulroy.
Unfortunately Aoife Hamilton of West Waterford who
also qualified could not compete on the day. Many
thanks to team managers John McGrath and Evelyn O’ Reilly for looking after
lads so well.
