This team includes multiple athletes, both seasoned campaigners and rising stars, that are primed to make an impact, demonstrating both enhanced depth and breadth in our athlete cohort. It’s been a busy season with World Championships and Commonwealth Games for many of this squad, but the European Championships has been the primary focus for 2022”

Reece Ademola, Leevale AC
Reece Ademola, Leevale AC, got off to a tremendous start in this afternoon's Men's Long Jump. His first jump, 7.76m, proved to be his longest, and also the longest in Pool B, his qualification group... and 4th longest overall, between both Long Jump Qualification groups
Not only that, but he also set a new Irish National Under 20 record, surpassing the previous record of 7.73m, set by Ciarán McDonagh in 1995. It also moves Reece up to fourth place on the Irish all-time list
Reece’s 7.76m also moves him to fourth place on the all-time standings, behind Ciarán McDonagh’s senior record of 8.07m, set in 2005. Reece'soutdoing his previous 7.68m record, set just last month in Cork.
Reece went into the event in top form, having won the National Under-20 Title and finishing in fifth place at the National Senior Championships recently. He set his previous best of 7.68m, set at last month's Cork City Sports
Afterwards Reece said “I’m shocked, to be honest, but delighted,” he said. “It’s big adrenaline for tomorrow. I’ll get a rest now, come in replenished for tomorrow and just kick ass.”
The Long Jump Final is set for tomorrow night, Tuesday 2nd Aug, at 10:16pm Irish time
Dean Casey, Ennis Track
Dean Casey, Ennis Track, made a valiant attempt to stay with the large, African dominated lead group, staying with them for the first 3km, which he passed in 13th place. The leaders took it out in 2:58 for the first km, followed by 2:59, however the pace then increased to 2:47, 2:45, and 2:33 for the final km. Dean held to his task, but was unable to make up places, finishing in 14:37.79
