Cork City Council received a great response to it's request for athletes to represent Cork at the Cologne Marathon next October, and has asked Cork Athletics to pass on it's thanks to all those who expressed interest.  The Council will now be working with several athletes towards successfull participation in Cork's Twinned City Marathon

Cologne - Cork Twinning

Cologne is one of several cities, from all across the world, to have been twinned with Cork City

Links with Cologne were formally established in May 1988, in Cologne, and subsequently, when a party visited Cork in May 1989, when the second stage of the formal twinning ceremony was completed. Since then, the exchange has gone from strength to strength, especially in the fields of education, training, music and athletics.

RHEINENERGIEMARATHON COLOGNE - 01st OCTOBER, 2017

Cork City is twinned with the city of Cologne, Germany since 1988.

Over the years many exchanges have taken place between the cities on various projects.
Over the past 10 years we have been inviting athletes from our twinned cities to the Cork Marathon and  more recently the city of Cologne have reciprocated by extending an invitation to Cork to participate in their annual marathon. Since 2011 athletes have been travelling to Cologne and the reports back have been overwhelmingly positive with some athletes making return visits.
