This afternoon, Tuesday July 11th, 2017, Stephanie Cotter, West Muskerry AC, was the recipient of the Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month for May 2017, presented at a function in the River Lee.

Stephanie Cotter, West Muskerry AC, is Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month for May 2017

May 2017 Citation:

The Cork City Sports Athlete of the Month for May 2017 is Stephanie Cotter (Coachford College and West Muskerry AC). During the month of May, Stephanie dominated the traditional end-of-school-year track and field championships, in both the Senior Girls 800m and 1500m events.


Stephanie achieved a double victory at the Munster Schools Championships, on May 20th, at the CIT track. She later went on to win gold at Irish 1500m, on the first weekend of June at Tullamore. Additionally Stephanie had a famous victory in the 800m women's race at the renowned Leevale Open Sports on the 6th May.

Stephanie is coached by Collette O'Riordan, West Muskerry AC.

Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
