The Officers and Officials of Cork Athletics County Board extend their condolences and deepest sympathy to the McCarthy family, Tommy, John and Denis, and his grandchildren, Eoin Corcoran, Gráinne, Sinéad, Colm, Eamonn, Dearbhaile and Jack on the death, following a short illness, of our esteemed colleague Dan McCarthy, former Chairman and Life President of East Cork Athletics Division, and Club President of St. Catherine's AC.

 

Dan's lifetime contribution to athletics leaves a lasting legacy

Dan McCarthy

Former Chairman of The east Cork Athletics Board, Former Vice Chairman of The Cork County Athletics Board, President of St. Catherine's Athletic Club, Life Long Member of St. Catherine's GAA club.

Beloved husband of the late Kathleen and father of the late Lena Corcoran. Sadly missed by his sons Denis, John and Tommy, daughters in law Caitriona and Amanda, son in law John and his partner Siobhain, brothers Con and John, sister in law Eileen, grandchildren Eoin, Gráinne, Sinéad, Colm, Eamonn, Dearbhaile and Jack, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

May Dan rest in peace

For those we love don't go away,

they walk beside us every day.

Dan is to be buried with his beloved Kathleen and family members in the local cemetery in Ballynoe in a private funeral due to government advice regarding public gatherings. Please leave a personal message in the Condolences section.

About Us

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
