Cork Athletics Registration Figures - May 31st 2019

 Leading 28 Clubs by Registration May 31st 2019

May end-of-month registrations for Cork Athletics stand at 7,122. All of Cork Athletics 56 registered clubs now have members registered.

The May figures are 1.05% up on the May 2018 corresponding figure of 7,048, but 1.15% (82) behind the May 2017 figure of 7,204. The corresponding 2016 figure was 6405, while the May 2015 figure was 5,909



Just two clubs clubs now have less than the required minimum of ten (10) registered members to constitute a valid registered club. While this may not appear to be a major issue for them - Club Members may still compete in championships - it does constitute some difficulties, e.g. they may not vote on a County Board matter and, perhaps of more significance to some clubs, they may not apply for Race permits as a registered club (at least until they have at least 10 registered members)
 

As always, clubs are reminded that new members may 'try out' the club for a few weeks, after which they MUST be registered, or they will NOT be covered by Athletics Ireland insurance

National Standings

Athletics Ireland are likely to issue the May end-of-month National registration figures later this month. Standing of Cork clubs in the various Top 50 National standings will then be added to this page

Overall Registrations as at May 31st 2019

Next 28 Clubs by Registration May 31st 2019

The May 31st registration total stands at 7,122

Leevale AC remain at the of top the overall listings, followed by Bandon AC, with ten clubs now having over 200 registered members.  Twenty eight clubs exceed the 100 mark, with Blarney-Inniscarra AC 'knocking on the door', just 1 shy of the 100 mark.

Juvenile/Youth Registrations as at May 31st 2019

In January last, a new category, Youth, was introduced to the Registration categories. This group consists of members born in 2001 or 2002.

Juvenile Clubs by Registration May 31st 2019

Bandon AC head the table, followed by Leevale AC, with Belgooly AC and West Muskerry AC in third and fourth spots. Sixteen clubs have 100 or more Juvenile/Youth members.

Senior/Masters Registrations as at March 31st 2019

Mallow AC retain their usual position at top the table, followed by Leevale AC, with Eagle AC next, followed by Midleton AC. Thirteen clubs now have over 100 registered adult members, with two more within a registration or two of the 100 mark.

Senior Registrations

Senior athletes are, or should include, the 'Elite' members - this is the age group from which our Provincial, National and International athletes will emerge.  The numbers in this age group, from those born before 2000, and aged under 35, continues to be disappointing low, particularly in the early 20's ages.  While athletics is not the only sport experiencing this issue, clearly Cork Athletics and Athletics Ireland urgently needs to formulate a strategy to attract and retain athletes in this age range

Largest Clubs by Senior Registrations

Masters Registrations

With over 200 Masters members, Mallow AC are, by a distance, the largest club in this category. Eagle AC and Midleton AC are next, followed by a 'possee' of clubs in the 90 - 110 range.
