Cork Athletics Registration Figures - September 30th 2018

September end-of-month registrations for Cork Athletics stand at 7,828. This is marginally down (69 registrations) on the September 2017 figure of 7,897.

Update (October 3rd): With the Cross-Country season starting in earnest next Sunday, there has been a surge in registrations, with a total of 8,028 registrations to date. Probably the biggest change, since September 30th, is that new club, Bridevale AC now have 80 registered members.

To date, fifty six of Cork's fifty seven registered clubs have registered athletes, leaving just one club yet to register a single athlete - and that club registered just a single athlete in 2017. 

These clubs, and their athletes, coaches, officials and other club members are NOT covered by Athletics Ireland insurance for any purpose whatsoever, leaving those athletes and clubs in a precarious position. In the situation where membership fees have been collected, but no Athletics Ireland registration paid, then that particular club, and its officers, leave themselves in a very precarious position, with the club, and the individual officers, personally covering any liability arising.

An additional consequence of failing to register a club and the minimum registration requirement of ten (10) registered members, is that permit applications from such clubs will, as has already happened this year, be declined, pending registration.

2018 Athletics Ireland Registrations are now Due

Clubs are reminded that 2018 registrations should be completed as soon as possible. There was a "grace period" of a few weeks, to allow sufficient time for re-registrations, whereby insurance cover continued, pending registration.  This "grace period" does NOT extend beyond the later end of January, and did NOT include competition.

Therefore any athlete, coach, official, or any member acting in any capacity, who remains unregistered is NOT covered by Athletics Irelands insurance, for ANY purpose whatsoever, including training and/or competition.

Clubs are urged to register their athletes without further delay.

Overall Registrations as at September 30th 2018

Leevale AC have moved ahead of Bandon AC at the head of the table, with Leevale exceeding the 600 mark. Both clubs lead the rest of the clubs, by a distance. Togher AC, Ballymore Cobh AC, Midleton AC and Youghal AC all now have over 300 registered members.

A total of fifteen (15) clubs have over 200 registrations, while a further eleven (11) clubs exceed 100 registered members, a total of 26 clubs. Almost 50% of registered clubs exceed 100 registered members.

Top 50 Clubs Nationally

Five Cork clubs make the Top 50 national listing - Two clubs are included in the Top 10: Leevale AC, with 651 registrations, are in second place, by a single registration, while Bandon AC, on 598, are in 8th position. The other 3 to make the Top 50 are, Ballymore-Cobh AC (333), Togher AC (332), just 1 behind, and Midleton AC (315)

Juvenile/Junior Registrations as at September 30th 2018

Leevale AC, on 457, lead the table, marginally ahead of Bandon AC, on 453, while both clubs have of whom still have over double the Juvenile/Junior membership of third-placed North Cork AC.

Five Cork clubs also make the Top 50 National Juvenile listing - with Leevale AC, in second place, on 474, pipping Bandon AC , in 4th place, on 472, just two behind Leevale.  North Cork AC (207), Belgooly AC (205) and West Muskerry AC (195) are the other three clubs to achieve Top 50 status.

Mallow AC have over 50% more Registered Seniors & Masters than nearest rivals, Leevale AC, with Eagle AC and Ballymore-Cobh AC close behind.

Senior Registrations

Leevale AC surpass all others at the head of the Senior table, with 70 Seniors. New club Doneraile AC remain in clear second place, with 46 Senior members, behind Leevale AC. Togher AC come next, with with 32, followed by Mallow AC (28) and Bandon AC (27)

Masters Registrations as at September 30th 2018

Mallow AC are way ahead of the rest of the field, with 233 Masters registrations. Eagle AC and Ballymore-Cobh AC have 157 and 152 respectively. Midleton AC and St Finbarrs AC follow next, while a total of 14 clubs topping the 100 mark.

Mallow AC (261) are in 10th place Nationally.  Nine other Cork Clubs are in the Top 50 Adult clubs: Leevale AC, Eagle AC, Ballymore-Cobh AC, Togher AC, St Finbarrs AC, Doneraile AC, Midleton AC, Youghal AC and St Nicholas AC

County Registrations

Cork registrations lag behind Dublin by just under 700 registrations, while both counties significantly exceed third placed Meath, by a factor of 2 (approx.) between them, Cork and Dublin comprise almost 30% of all registrations

Cork, being, geographically, the largest county has the largest number of clubs (56), while Dublin, with the largest population, is next on 36.
