Several Cork Athletes medalled today, at the World Masters Championships, in Malaga, Spain, in the Cross-Country events, winning individual and team medals, with several near-misses in tightly fought contests.

 

M35 8k Cross-Country

Sean McGrath, East Cork AC, had to settle for 4th place in the M35 8k, in 25:23, just 6 seconds the 3rd place Spaniard, however he had the satisfaction of leading the Irish team home to team Silver, behind hosts Spain. Tim Twomey, Leevale AC, was next home on the irish team, in 8th place, in 26:40

M70 6km Cross-Country

First medal of the day went to Richard Piotrowski, Eagle AC, representing GB & NI, in the M70 6m cross-country. Richard placed 9th, in 26:41, to lead team GB & NI home to the Silver medals in the team category, on a tightly-packing GB team, who placed 9th, 10th & 11th

There were no Cork athletes in this race, however it was notable, from an Irish point of view, as Ireland secured 2nd and 4th places, though second placed Jacqueline Stamp is not listed as scoring any points!?

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland.
