MORTON GAMES GOES LIVE THIS FRIDAY, July 24th

The famous Morton Games athletics meeting will be packed with big names this Friday in Santry for its first ever live broadcast, with live coverage via YouTube and the Morton Games website, and highlights to be broadcast on Setanta Ireland and Irish TV.

Athletes

A number of internationally-known big names will be announced 72 hours before the event, but Ireland’s newest world champion Thomas Barr is on the list of home athletes competing, including Mark English, Ciara Everard and Kelly Proper.

The newly-crowned World University Games champion Barr will feature in the men’s 400m hurdles in his first race on Irish soil since being crowned world champion in Korea.
Everard over 800m and Proper in the 200m are looking to improve her impressive times this season in their bid to qualify for both next months’ World Athletics Championships in Beijing and the Olympic Games in Rio.

Proper currently lies four-hundredths of a second outside the World Championships qualifying time over the half-lap, while Everard is 0.21 outside the 800m qualifying mark, following her sixth-place finish at the World University Games.

Mark English is also looking to get over his recent off-spell after finishing third at the Cork City Sports, and being well off the pace in the 800m final at last week’s European Under-23 Athletics Championships in Tallinn.

Coverage

Coverage will be presented by Tulsen Tollett, with commentary from the usual independent TV team of Will Downing, Dick Hooper and Jessie Barr being joined by new signing David Gillick, with the twice European 400m indoor champion making his commentary debut.

Produced by Irish Sports Network and OB company 247.tv, the live stream will run from 7pm-9:15pm on the Friday night, with highlights broadcast at the following times –
