Cork Athletics Statement on County Track and Field Championships 2024

County Track and Field Championships 2024

track and field image

The County Board is committed to hosting Track and Field Championships in 2024, for both juvenile and senior athletes. With no definite re-opening date for the Mardyke, the Board has looked at alternative options

What we can definitely say is that there will be a juvenile throws day, in Castleisland on Sunday 14th April, incorporating javelin and shot put, for U13 and up, together with discus and hammer, for U14's and above. There may be restrictions on the number of events an athlete can enter, so that we can ensure these events can all take place on that day

The pole vault competition for juveniles will take place at the Leevale High Performance Centre, on the evening of Monday 13th May. Entries for both these competitions should be open by Monday 25th March

Relays will take place on 19th May, in either Castleisland or the Mardyke. A final decision on that will take place in the middle of April, once the picture on Mardyke access is clearer

The remaining dates for Juvenile T&F will be finalised by the middle of April. If the Mardyke is available, they will take place on 4th, 5th and 12th May. If the Mardyke is not available, some U9-U13 events will take place, with the relays, on 19th May, and the other events will take place at MTU, in August

Senior Track and Field events will take place once the track in MTU is available.
This situation is not what we want to see, but the County Board is trying to remain as flexible as possible, in terms of dates and locations. We ask for the patience of the athletic public in Cork, and we understand your frustration in being in an information vacuum so close to what are our normal dates for County T&F Championships
