Grace McKenzie Breaks Pentathlon 4000 Barrier

Belgooly athlete, Grace McKenzie, currently on scholarship at McNeese State University in the U.S.A., has smashed McNeece State's Pentathlon record, with a combined points total of 4,030.  This is Grace's first time past the 4,000 barrier., and this places her third overall on the Irish women's indoor all-time records, behind Kate O'Connor, 4,150, and just a hair's breadth behind Elizabeth Morland, 4,043.

McNeese State Report:

 

"BIRMINGHAN, Ala. – McNeese indoor track and field landed fourth athletes on the medal stand on the first day of the 2018 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with multi-event star Grace McKenzie stealing the show with a school record 4,030 points to bring home the gold medal in the women's pentathlon.

That gold medal has the Cowgirls sitting in third place in the team rankings with 26 points through five events scored heading into Thursday's final day.

McKenzie, who bettered her own school record in the event that she set earlier in the season, took first in the high jump portion of the pentathlon, was second in the 60-meter hurdles, 800-meters and the shot put, and was third in the long jump.

She also finished sixth in the individual long jump event at 18-6 and qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals after posting an 8.67 time in the prelims."
