Age Distribution of Registered Members

cork athletics registration age distribution 2017

Age distribution of Cork Athletics Registered Members

The registrations throw up some anomalies, like the small number of members who are just a few months old. At the other end of the spectrum, there are several members who were born in the year 1900, so are almost 118 years old! The explanation for both scenarios is a lack of attention to detail when entering Registration data.

Nevertheless, the alarming drop-off in members, from approx. age 12 to 34, is cause for concern, but is not confined to Athletics. Similar trends have been cited by the GAA and IRFU, among many other sports.  While it is concerning to see such a drop-off, perhaps it is also an opportunity for someone to research the reasons and, as an outcome, engage with the cohort.

Senior Registrations

Leading Cork Clubs, by Senior registrations

When one looks at Senior membership - adults under 35 years - a clear distinction is apparent, with Leevale AC a massive distance ahead of the rest. Bandon AC and Togher AC are next, so the three clubs who most partake in T&F at National level are to the fore.
