Cork Colleges will have further representation. Along with the UCC students, CIT will also be represented, on the Women's Football Squad, by Amanda Budden.

 

UCC's Representation

UCC will be represented by Phil Healy at the upcoming World Student Games to be held in Taipei City, Taiwan from 18th to 30th August 2017. In preparation for the games, the athletics delegation headed off on Thursday 17th August.

Embracing the International University Sports Federation (FISU's) motto of 'Excellence in Mind and Body', over 10,000 athletes will come together in Taipei, Taiwan to compete in some 300 medal events, across 21 sports at the 29th World University Games.

The Irish Delegation at the 2017 Games will consist of 64 athletes and 27 team officials, and is supported by third level colleges and universities, the relevant National Governing Sports Bodies, and Sport Ireland.

In addition to Phil Healy, seven other UCC students will be representing Ireland in soccer, in both the Womens & Mens game.

Phil will represent Ireland in the 200m, having met the qualifying standard last year.

Phil continues to perform very well on the athletics circuit, having placed 3rd in the 200m, with a new PB, at the Cork City Sports in July
Late last month, Phil won the Women's 200m Championship, at the National Senior Track & Field Athletic Championships in Dublin. Phil also won the intervarsity 400m title, at the CIT track, last April, while, in January this year, Phil won the National Indoor Championship 200m title.

About Us

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
