Record Cork Athletics Registration Figures - February 2017

The February end-of-month Cork Athletics Registrations stand at 5,250, compared with the February 2016 end-of-month figure of 4,681, a rise of 12.16%.

Update March 2nd: Since the publication of this article, yesterday, it has come to light that at least 51 registrations, from newer clubs have not been included in the registration figures.  In one case, all registrations by a new club have been omitted - these registrations are now visible to Cork Athletics.  The matter has been taken up with Athletics Ireland HQ, and, hopefully, these registrations will be included in the next set of Registration figures published by Cork Athletics, in the next week or so.  As of 2pm on Thursday March 2nd, Cork Registrations now stand at 5,315, excluding the 51 or so "missing" registrations, outlined above.

To date, forty nine of Cork's fifty three registered clubs have registered athletes, leaving just four clubs yet to register an athlete.  Several new clubs have only recently received their Registration System log-in detals, so, in common with previous new clubs, they normally require additional time to bring their registrations 'to to speed'.

However established clubs, and their athletes, are reminded that the insurance dispensation, whereby the 2016 insurance cover continued until the end of January last, is no longer in force - unregistered athletes are NOT covered by the Athletics Ireland insurance for any purpose whatsoever, leaving those athletes and clubs in a precarious position. 

While the rise in registrations to date has been phenomenal, some clubs have been very quick 'out of the starting blocks', with registrations well up and beyond last years figures, while others are still just 'taking off their tracksuits' and their registrations are, in some cases, well down on their respective February 2016 figures.
 

2017 Athletics Ireland Registrations are now Due

Clubs are reminded that 2017 registrations should be completed as soon as possible. There was a "grace period" of a few weeks, to allow sufficient time for re-registrations, whereby insurance cover continued, pending registration.  This "grace period" does NOT extend beyond January 31st and does NOT include competition.

Therefore any athlete that remains unregistered beyond January 31st is NOT covered by Athletics Irelands insurance, for ANY purpose, training or competition.
Clubs are urged to register their athletes without further delay.

NB: The "grace period" covers official club, county, provincial and national training sessions.  It does NOT cover competition. All athletes competing in Championship or representative events MUST be registered.  Club Registrars are reminded that there is a new Registration System in operation.

Overall Registrations as at February 28th 2017

Bandon AC and Leevale AC head the list, as usual, by a distance, Ballymore-Cobh-are in third place, with 314, while four more clubs exceed the 200 registrations mark, and another nine clubs have over 100 registered members.

As with the overall figures, Bandon AC and Leevale AC stand well clear of the others

Senior/Master Registrations for February 2017

Ballymore Cobh AC top the list, followed by Leevale AC.
