Irish Under 17 Team Celtic International 2017


Breaking News from Steve Macklin in Cardiff


"What a fantastic day for the Irish Under 17 & Under 20 athletes and teams, and their coaches, at the Celtic International XC in Cardiff,  with the following results:

  • Under 17 Girls International  - Gold for Sarah Healy, who led Ireland to Team Silver
  • Under 17 Boys International - Gold for Bantry AC's Darragh McElhinney, while Jake McCarthy, Youghal AC, took Silver and Conor Maguire took Bronze.  Togher AC's Chris O'Reilly took fourth for an Irish clean sweep and ensure Team Gold

    Athletics Weekly: "
    Ireland’s Sarah Healy won the battle in the under-17 women’s race against Hannah Hobbs, while her compatriot Darragh McElhinney claimed victory in the men’s equivalent after pulling away from Antrim winner Matthew Willis over the final lap."

     
  • Under 20 Womens International -  Amy Rose Farrell took Silver, while Sophie Murphy was fourth, Stephanie Cotter, West Muskerry AC, in sixth place, with Ireland taking Team Gold
  • Under 20 Mens International - Fearghal Curtin, Youghal AC took individual Gold, with Paul O'Donnell in fourth place, Leevale AC's Charlie O'Donovan was in 6th place, with Ireland again taking Team Gold

  • Senior Women - Sinead O'Connor, Leevale AC, placed 5th in the International event, and 12th overall, helping the Irish squad to team Gold.  This was Sinead's first International vest.
    The other Irish placings were; Shona Heaslip, An Riocht AC, 1st (3rd overall), Maria McCambridge, DSD AC, 2nd (4th overall) and Una Britton, Kilcoole AC, 3rd (6th overall)

About Us

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
