Louise Shanahan Selected for 800m at World T&F Championships

Louise Shanahan, Leevale AC, is the sole Cork athlete on these World Championships, although other Cork athletes, including Bandon AC's Phil Healy, are understood to have passed up on selection, to concentrate on the European Championships, as there are just a few weeks between the two big Championships

There is other Cork interest on the team, as Brendan Boyce, Finn Valley AC, and David Kenny, Farranfore Maine Valley AC, are both coached by Rob Heffernan


Selection Announcement: World Championships, Oregon 15th to 24th July 2022

Athletics Ireland has confirmed the selection of eleven individual athletes, and the Mixed 4x400m Relay Team for the upcoming World Athletics Championships to be held in Eugene, Oregon from the 15th to the 24th July. Selectors have deferred consideration of Women’s 4x100m selection until after that squad competes at Stockholm Diamond League tonight (June 30th)

As per published policy, athletes were eligible for selection by having either attained an ‘A’ standard or by having attained a ‘B’ standard and be ranked within quota on the World Rankings in their event.  Athletes selected in any individual event or relay were also eligible for selection in any other event in which they were ranked within quota on the World Rankings, regardless of having attained a ‘B’ standard

In a busy season for our performance athletes, several have planned their year around the European Championships and have opted to forego the World Championships in this instance, including Ciara Mageean, Fionnuala McCormack and Phil Healy.
