Niamh McCarthy Throws 31.03m for F41 Discus Gold
Niamh McCarthy took F41 discus gold, when she decimated the field at the World Para Athletics European Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland today.
Niamh started with a throw of 10.45m, which left her in 5th place, and outside the medal positions - her throw was taken before video coverage of the event started. She 'got into gear' with her second throw of 27.96m, which, as it turned out, would have been good enought to win the championship. However she then threw 30.03m wit her third throw - her best of teh Championships, and 28.37m for her penultimate throw. Any of her final three valid throws would have been sufficient to take Gold, as Silver Medalist, Renata Sliwinska, Poland, threw 24.77m - a World Record for her, as she is in the F40 category.
