Stephanie Cotter powering to victory in the NCAA Div II Women's Mile, chased by Roisin Flanagan
Just days after being named RMAC Freshman of the Year, Stephanie Cotter, Adams State University and West Muskerry AC, made a huge impact on the US National stage yesterday, when winning the NCAA Div II Women's Indoor Mile Title, in a personal best time of 4:50.27. She had ran a collegiate best of 4:52.40 on Day 1, and she shattered that time by over two seconds, to secure her first National title.
Stephanie's victory, with college-mate Roisin Flanagan in second place, garnered Adams State University a total of thirteen points - seven for Stephanie's win and a further six for Roisin's runner-up spot - helped Adams State University to victory in the team standings. The Adams State Women's team earned the college's fifth indoor National crown, which was highlighted by three individual National Champions on day one, and multiple All-American finishes. The dominant performance of Adams State, on day two, showed through, as the Grizzlies scored a total of 87 points, for a 23 points victory margin.
The 2019 National Championship Title is the college's fifth overall, in NCAA program history, and their first since the 2016-17 season. The Grizzlies 87 points and 23-point victory are also special numbers too. The 87 team points is the biggest for the women at the National Championships, and point differential is their largest margin of victory.
