CYDI and Winter Coaching Series Update January 2019

CYDI and Winter Coaching Series Update - January 2019

Report by Colette Kelly

At the December CYDI & Winter Coaching Series Meet, there was strong interest expressed that the series should continue in the New Year, so training resumed on Saturday January 12th, when, between the two sessions, 67 athletes took part, over a range of events.

The distance group also joined the CIT group, for a track session, in preparation for the indoor season.

The focus of the session was on preparation for indoor competition for the sprints, hurdles, jumps and shot put groups. The distance group had an easy track session, as many athletes were coming down off their cross country season. The javelin, discus and hammer groups continued their technique work, with their competition season still a little way off.

The next CYDI and Winter Coaching session will be on Saturday February 16th. As February and March are busy months in terms of competition, free dates are extremely hard to come by. Although the February 16th date clashes with the National Senior Indoor Championships, it was decided to go ahead with the CYDI / Winter Coaching session, as the target group are not of senior competition age.

However, there will be limited coaching events on the day, as several coaches will be attending the National Seniors.

The CYDI and Winter Coaching Series events that will proceed on February 16th are: Sprints, Hurdles, Javelin, Discus and Hammer.

Check-in for the CYDI group is from 12:45, with the session running from 1pm to 2:30pm, while check-in  for the Winter Coaching group will be from 2:15pm, with the session running from 2:30 to 4:00pm.

The Distance Running group will also hold a session, in CIT, on February 16th, from 1:30pm to 3pm, with check-in at 1:15pm. This session will provide a great opportunity for athletes to get quality track time, before the Munster U12-U19 Indoor Championships, in Nenagh, on February 23 & 24th.

There will be no CYDI and Winter Coaching Series sessions during March, however we hope to organise more sessions during April, in the run up to the start of the outdoor Track & Field season.
