National Marathon First For Youghal AC's Women

Youghal AC's Women Bring Home Club's First Ever National Marathon Championship Title

Youghal AC's F35 National Marathon Champions: Louise O'Brien, Deirdre Ansbro and Ann Marie Holland

Youghal AC are celebrating their F35 women's team's National Marathon Championship Gold medal performance, at the Athletics Ireland National Marathon Championships, which were incorporated into the recent Dublin City Marathon, on Sunday October 28th 2018.  


According to the team's Coach, Martin Drake, these are the Club's first ever National Marathon Championship medals and has brought both excitement, joy and inspiration to the club.  First home was Ann Marie Holland, who was 8th F40, in 3:08:38, next home was Deirdre Ansbro, 11th F35, in 3:14:08, while Louise O'Brien anchored the team, as 23rd F40, in  3:25:41, for a Team aggregate time of 9:48:27

10th Annual London 10k - 18th November

On Sunday next, November 18th, a group of six athetes from Youghal AC are heading over to London for the 10th Annual Emer Casey 10k, The 10th Annual Emer Casey London 10k takes place in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, on Sunday, 18 November next, at 9:30am. Herne Hill Harriers have been the main organisers of the London event for many years 

 

The Emer Casey Foundation

The Emer Casey Foundation was set up in 2006 following the death, at a young age, of Emer Casey from Youghal Co. Cork from ovarian cancer. Read about the background and inspiration for their work in About the Foundation

 

The Emer Casey Foundation is one of Ireland’s leading charities in the area of ovarian cancer

The Foundation‘s goals are:

  • Raising Funds – to fund research into ovarian cancer, its causes and treatments as well as possible screening
  • Raising Standards – to help improve patient care in the area
  • Raising Awareness – to spread the word about and heighten people’s awareness of this deadly disease

 

Emer Casey 5k 2019

The 2019 Emer Casey 5k will take place, in Youghal, on Thursday April 4th 2019

 

Grange Fermoy AC's F35 Team's Performance

Just 12 minutes on aggregate behind Youghal AC were Grange-Fermoy AC's F35 Team, who took the Bronze medals in the F35 Team Championship. Led home by Joan Ennis, who retained her F50 individual Title, in 3:11:06. Next across the line was Ellen Lewis-Hanley, 14th F40, in 3:18:37, while Clotilde Fitzgibbon, 6th F50,in 3:30:37. [There are unconfirmed rumours that the team benefitted from Clo's famous Compote....available at good stores near you!]

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
