Athletics Ireland is hosting a ‘Coaching Teenage Girls’ workshop, in the Vienna Woods Hotel, Dunkettle, Glanmire, Co. Cork, T45 V065, on Monday November 7th

This workshop is suitable for those who are currently coaching, or wish to coach, teenage girls, and is also open to non-affiliated Athletics Ireland members

 

BY THE END OF THIS WORKSHOP, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

1.   Identify the key aspects underpinning retention of girls in physical activity and sport

2.   Discuss psycho-social needs of girls in sport, and consider how they could meet these needs through their coaching practice to foster autonomy, confidence, and belonging in girls, across team and individual sports

3.   Consider practical strategies to optimise coach-athlete relationships, and to support the athletes’ voice through the coaching process

4.   Understand the importance of communication (coach to athlete, and athlete to athlete) in retaining girls in sport

5.   Discuss the relationship between physical activity participation, body image and maturation

About Us

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
