Ballincollig AC will host an Athletics Ireland Endurance Running course, on Saturday March 30th 2019, in Gaelscoil na Dúglaise/Gaelscoil an Athar Tadhg Ó Murchú, South Douglas Road Cork

Saturday's course will be delivered by former Irish International, Rosemary Ryan. Rosemary represented Ireland in the Women's 5,000m, at the Sydney Olympics (2000), where she ran 15:33.05. She represented Ireland at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships five times, from 1999 to 2006, and was a member of the Irish team that won Bronze over the short course, at the 2002 World Cross Country Championships, in Dublin. She also won Team Silver at the 2003 European Cross Country Championships, in Edinburgh.
She won a total of four titles outdoors (1,500, 3,000 and 5,000) and two titles indoors (1,500 and 3,000), as well as two road relay titles and one individual cross country title, at the Irish Universities (IUAA) Athletics Championships.
In all, Rosemary Ryan won nine senior Irish National Titles - two track titles, four road titles and three cross country titles. She won the 2006 5,000 metres, and 2003 10K, on the track, while, on the road, she won two 10K road titles (2004 &05), and two half marathon titles (1999 & 2003).

The course cost is €60 per person, and is open to Athletics Ireland members aged over 16 years. It is also open to non-members, including Triathletes, and anyone interested in Endurance Running
The course capacity is twenty five (25) participants total
However, if there is large demand, Cork Athletics will host another course on another date

The course will be held in Gaelscoil an Athar Tadhg, South Douglas Road, Cork. The school is located off the Douglas West slip-road from the N40 South Ring-Road

Approaches, from other Athletics Ireland clubs, to host these courses would be welcome.
The aim of the Endurance Running course is to give some basic knowledge/skills to the endurance coach to help assist in the delivery of coaching sessions to young athletes/Fit4Life groups/Road Runners etc. It is an introduction to some key endurance principles.
An introduction into the key principles of endurance running.
Content can cover training methods, periodisation , juvenile and Fit4Life Development.
This would be a very good course for those considering introducing a Fit4Life programme to their club.
Coaches will learn some final useful tips that will add to their coaching armoury and have the opportunity to ask any questions with regard to the course or training in general
Duration: This is a course over 1 day or 2 nights (8 hours in total)
Entry Requirements: The Endurance Running Course is open to all those 16 years or over. It is open to people from all sporting codes and not just members of Athletics Ireland.
Assessment/ Qualification: There is no exam and is certified by Athletics Ireland & Coaching Ireland
