West Cork Division Cross-Country Championships 2018

Bandon - 11:00am, Sunday September 30th 2018

 

The West Cork Cross Country Championship will take place on Sunday 30th September, with the first race scheduled to start at 11:30am.

The venue is just outside Bandon, on the Bandon - Ballinadee Road

Directions to to Cross-Country course

Pass the Bandon Mart, out the Ballinadee road with the Old Still on the left. After about 2k you pass Baldwins Bridge, then take a right at the sign for Christy Coal. The Cross-Country course is 2k from here.  There will be plenty space for parking in field directly across from course

 

Entry & Gate Fees

Non pre entry required, all athletes and spectators pay at the gate.  €3 each with €10 per family.

 

First race is at 11:30am

Races for u9, u10, u12, u14, u16, u20, Senior and masters.

Races get underway at 11:30am with Girls U9, then boys u9, u10’s etc.

Senior and Master races will be held when the underage races are finished, that will be approx 12:30pm

Medals for first 3 individuals, and for the top 3 teams in each race.

No pre-entry required, all athletes and spectators pay at the gate, entry at the gate is €3 for juveniles, and €5 for adults.

 

Novice, Senior & Masters Events

In addition to Senior and Masters sections, a new Novice section has been introduced. The Novice section is for anyone who has never won an individual medal in cross-country at west Cork or County level.

Novices must be at least 20 years old this year, with no upper age limit.
Distances are 3km for women, and 6km for men.

The Novice/Senior/Master races will be run as one race, with Men and Women running separate races.

Medals will be awarded to the first three (3) in each category, and will be presented at the finish line.

Team prizes will be on offer also, with four (4) athletes to score and scoring will be based on overall position, so a team could, for example, comprise of two senior, one novice and a masters athlete, or four novices.


It is possible for a club to win more than one team prize if it fields enough athletes to form more than one club team

Cork Athletics County Board is a constituent member of Athletics Ireland. Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
