The race starts a very small distance west of the church in Glounthaune, on the road to Little Island/Cork.

The route is west in the direction of Cork City/Little Island, turning right after two miles and returning on a picturesque section of road parallel to the outward leg, re-joining the main road near the Island Gate restaurant.
