 Joseph Murphy's Death Notice

The death has occurred of Joseph (Soapy) MURPHY
Riverview, Tower, Cork

Murphy (New Jersey, USA and late of Riverview, Tower) On November 9th 2017, suddenly in New Jersey, Joseph (Soapy), beloved husband and best friend of Cecelia Cullen-Murphy, loving son of Joe and Anne and brother of Martin. Sadly missed by his loving wife, parents, brother, uncles, aunts, cousins, sister-in-law, relatives and his many friends in Ireland and New Jersey.

May he rest in peace.

Lying in repose at Crowley's Funeral Home, Ballincollig Wednesday (22nd) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm followed by Rosary and Removal to St. Senan's Church, Cloghroe, Requiem Mass at 2.00pm Thursday (23rd). Funeral afterwards to St. Senan's Cemetery, Tower.

Joseph "Soapy" Murphy's Obituary

Joseph "Soapy" Murphy of Park Ridge, NJ, formerly of Tower, Co. Cork, Ireland, passed away suddenly on November 9th, 2017.  He was 39 years old. Joseph was born in Co Cork on July 19th 1978 to Joseph and Anne Murphy. He attended Scoil Mhuire in Montenotte, Cork before working local jobs. He eventually started working for Stryker. It was while working in Stryker that he met the love of his life Cecelia. They met at the Muskerry Arms in Blarney. He would soon follow Cecelia back to New Jersey where they would marry in January of 2016.

Joseph was an avid Arsenal fan. He had every Arsenal Jersey since 1985. He also loved playing darts. He played for the Muskerry Arms Hotel in Ireland and continued to play in Pearl River when he moved to NJ. He played darts for South Bound and The Saloon dart teams.

Joseph will be remembered as a loving, humble and funny person. He loved to tell jokes and would talk to a lamp post if he could. He loved socializing and spending time with his wife and many friends.

Joseph is survived by his wife Cecelia, His parents; Joseph and Anne, his brother Martin and his many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

A celebration of Joseph's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue Pelham, NY on Sunday, November 19th, from 10:00am to 1pm. Joseph's remains will be repatriated home to Ireland on Monday November 20th. He will be buried at St. Senan's Cemetery in Tower Co. Cork. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph's name to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

This event has been organised by Brian Ahern (Bweeng Trailblazers AC) and will aslo be organised and marshalled by the very many people who want to support Joe and Anne Murphy, and their late son Joseph, and his widow, Cecelia.  It is an entirely voluntary effort to support and fundraise towards the repatriation costs incurred in bring Joseph home to Cork. 

The event has not been measured, and is an untimed and unplaced event - It is a fundraiser.  There will be no place prizes, but there will be spot prizes - If you can, please bring along spot prizes, or let Brian know on 0879439260

This event is not an Athletics Ireland registered event, however Cork Athletics wishes to lend support to Joe & Anne Murphy.  Joe & Anne have been members of Eagle AC, where Joe is a past Chairman, for almost forty years. Both Joe and Anne will also be well known to very many people who are newer to the running community for their Joe Anne Photos

Cork Athletics is the governing body, administering athletics, track and field (T&F), cross-country (XC) and running in county Cork. The Board comprises elected representatives of constituent athletic clubs and running clubs. Cork County Board AAI organises Championship races and competition, including road, track & field (T&F) and Cross-country (XC), at junior, juvenile, senior and masters levels, and selects representation for the county. In addition, training and education is provided for coaches and officials. The Board also regulates the Athletics Ireland race/event permit (licence) process for county Cork.
