Citation
Noelle Linehan (North Cork AC) from Charleville is the Cork City Sports
Athlete of the Month for October. At the World Paralympic Games,
in Doha, Quatar, last month, fifteen year old Noelle set a World Record
of 31.64m, in the F38 category, while securing the Silver medal.
While Noelle set the World Record with her second throw, the event was
won by China's Na Mi, with a throw of 31.57m. However, as Mi was
competing in the F37 category, in the combined F37-F38 Discus event,
she took Gold, bu's Noelle's throw claimed teh World Record for
F38.
Last June, Noelle represented Ireland at the European Championships, in
Germany, taking Gold in both discus and shot put. Amazingly,
Noelle only took up the discus discus throw less than 12 months ago,
having previously thrown Shot Put for about five or 6 years.
Noelle is jointly coached, in North Cork AC, by her father Jim, and Tom
Galvin.
Noelle's plans include competing in Rio next year.
