Michelle Finn Achieves Olympic Qualifying Time

Michelle Finn (Leevale AC) made the qualifying time (9:45) for next
year's Olympic Games, in the Women's 3k Steeplechase at Friday night's International Sub-4 Minute International Meet, in
Letterkenny, Donegal. Michelle placed third, in 9:43.34, behind
winner, Jamie Cheever (USA), 9:40.99, and Kerry O'Flaherty (Newcastle
AC), in 9:42.61, with Sarah Treach (Dunboyne AC) fourth, in
9:44.14. Michelle was overtaken by O'Flaherty in the sprint for
the line. All three girls made the Rio qualifying mark.
Both O'Flaherty and Finn also made the qualifying mark (9:44) for
the World Championships.
Along with the there girls, the list of Irish qualifiers for next year
Olympic Games includes Thomas Barr (Ferrybank ), 400m hurdles; walkers
Alex Wright (Leevale), 20km, and Brendan Boyce (Letterkenny) and/Rob
Heffernan (Togher ) 50km; and Breege Connolly (North Belfast Harriers),
marathon.
