In the F60 group, Carmel Parnell of Leevale was winning a record-breaking tenth title in her first year over 60. She had started conservatively and had no idea she had won until well after the race was over. "The visibility wasn't great today and when you move into a new age group, you're not sure of who you're racing against," she said.

Anne Marie McGlynn made a sparkling masters' debut when she ran away with the women's 6km at the British and Irish Masters Cross-Country International in Santry today.

With her Letterkenny club-mates Natasha Adams and Fionnuala Diver second and third, McGlynn was also leading the Irish W35 team to a resounding victory.

She will return to Santry next weekend to run in the National Interclubs, where places on the Irish team are at stake. Last year, she captained the Irish team to the bronze medals at the European Championships. " My target is a place on the Irish senior team and this was perfect preparation," she said.

On a great day for the Irish, Pauric McKinney of Inishowen won the M50 race after a tremendous battle with English and Welsh opposition. Other good results came from Brian Lynch who won the M60 title ahead of Matt Shields and Paul Elliot; Martin McEvilly of Galway City Harriers who was first M65 and helped the team to victory and the winning W45 trio of Jackie Carthy from Kilmore 1st, Raheny's Annette Kealy 2nd and Carmel Crowley of Bandon third.
