Athletics Ireland, in conjunction with Athletics Northern
Ireland, has announced details of it's new Regional High
Performance Endurance Squads iniative. The programme starts in
September, and is open only to those invited to participate.
Key elements of the programme include:
- Weekend Training Camps for athletes & their personal coaches
- Educational workshops incorporating key areas such as S&C,
Sports Psychology, Nutrition & Hydration, Planning, Goal Setting,
Lifestyle, Biomechanics
- A strong training emphasis at these camps with athletes working
together in groups
- A chance for personal coaches and lead coaches to interact and
share training ideas
- Regular communication re development & high performance
initiatives and competitions
- Mentoring support for personal coaches through the lead coaches
& National Junior Endurance Coach
The initiative will be led by Steve Macklin, National Junior Endurance
Coach, Athletics Ireland, Pat Ryan, Director of Development, Athletics
Ireland, Tom Crick, Director of Coaching and Talent Development
Athletics Northern Ireland, along with a team of regional endurance
coaches.
Having already been successfully run in Munster, for several years, the
programme is now being rolled out throughout all provinces in Ireland,
and includes Athletics NI. The primary aim is to further enhance the
development of endurance running in the country.
The Squad includes twenty six (26) Cork athletes, from 9 clubs: Bandon
AC, Bantry AC, Carrig Na Bhfear AC, Leevale AC, Midleton AC, North Cork
AC, Togher AC, West Muskerry AC and Youghal AC.
Training Camp
The initial Munster Regional training camp will take place at Banna Beach Co Kerry, over the weekend of September 18th-20th

Munster Registration Link - NB: ONLY athletes selected may register!
All selected athletes must now register their place, by Wednesday 12th August.
Any athlete who doesn’t register by then may be replaced by other
athletes on the reserve list. Athletes shoould register as soon as
possible, and ensure that all details requested are filled in. There is
a registration fee of €15 per athlete. After registration, head
coaches, from each region, will communicate all details regarding the
first camp directly with the personal coaches/athletes, via group email.
