Juvenile PRO Report

Day 4 of the GloHealth juvenile National track&field championships on Sunday 27th July provided Cork juveniles with further success. A total of 16 National medals were won on Sunday.

Conor Morey, Leevale AC, capped off a good season with silver in the boys u14 200m. In the girls u15 1500m Ursula Bluett, North Cork AC, had a great run to finish second. There was keen competition in the girl’s u15 javelin with Aoife Hurley, Grange-Fermoy AC, securing the silver with Maebh Daly, Carrig na bhfear AC, not far behind in the bronze medal position. Laura Cussen, Old Abbey AC, took second in the girl’s u15 long jump.In the boys u15 hammer Jack Hallahan, Midleton AC, continued his good work in the field events by taking the silver medal. Colin Deane, Bandon AC, was victorious in the boys u16 shot. Charlie Donovan, Leevale AC, followed up his good run in the schools championships with bronze in the boy’s u15 1500m. Louise Shanahan, Leevale AC, capped off a good weekend when capturing another title, this time the girls u18 1500m with her club mate Maeve Ahern the bronze. The girls u18 javelin provided a first and third for Cork athletes with gold for Lauren O'Mahoney, Youghal AC, and the bronze for Amy Linehan, North Cork AC. Once again David Cussen, Old Abbey AC, proved supreme in the high jump, this time winning the boys u19 title. Grace Mc Kenzie, Belgooly AC, took silver in the girl’s u19 high jump. In the boys u19 long jump Sam Healy, Leevale AC, captured the gold medal with Promise Okafor, Bandon AC, the bronze.

Well done to all who competed and for many it will be a well-earned break after the busy summer months of track & field competition.
