Munster Star Awards Booklet 2015
There were four Cork individual recipients of Munster Star Awards
at a function held at Listowel, on Saturday the 30th of January.
Vickie Cusack with Paddy Buckley, Vice-Chairman, Cork Athletics
Vickie Cusack - Liscarroll AC
Our first recipient was Vickie Cusack of Liscarroll AC. Vickie had a
long string of successes throughout 2015 winning eight Gold, one Silver
and two Bronze, both indoor and outdoor. She also qualified for the
Schools International Combined Events Championships, in Scotland, and
won a Bronze team medal. During the year she won three pentathlons
including schools. We wish her the very best for 2016.

Damien Hickey - Abbey Striders AC
Our second recipient was Damien Hickey, Abbey Striders AC. He had
numerous individual track event successes throughout the year.
Damien won silver at the All-Ireland Schools Combined Events, and won
an individual
Silver medal, at the International Combined Events
Championships, in Scotland.
We would like to wish him the best for 2016.

Darragh McElhinney - Bantry AC
Our next recipient was Darragh McElhinney, Bantry AC. Darragh
received his award for cross-country. He had many achievements such as,
fifth in the Celtic games, under 16 Counties, Provincial and
All-Ireland Champion. He also is the under 17 County and Provincial
champion, and he brought his
school to victory, in winning gold in both the Munster and All
Ireland's. He is the SIAB Junior Champion
Noelle Lenihan - North Cork AC
Noelle Lenihan, North Cork AC, won the Achievement Award. Noelle
had a great year, winning the shot putt and discus, with the Irish
Paralympics team at the Berlin 2015 European championships. Noelle was
also Silver medalist in the joint F37 – F38 Discus, and World Record
holder for F38
category, achieved at the World Championships in Doha. Due to her
achievements, she received many other awards, such as Cork City and
County Youth Sports Award for October. Well done to her and wishing her
the best for 2016
Michael Harty - East Cork AC
Michael Harty, East Cork AC, also received an award for senior
cross-country and road award. Michael was busy all through the year of
2015 by winning the Cork County T&F 5000m. He claimed victory in
the Cork City Sports, winning the 3000m. Michael won the Senior and
Masters Munster Cross-Country Championships. He won the Home Countries
British and Irish International M35 Cross-Country Championship

Patsy O'Connor Award

Mary Meagher - Blarney Inniscarra AC
Mary Meagher, Blarney Inniscarra AC, won the Patsy
O'Connor Award. Mary is an outstanding and dedicated official. Mary is
well known to
everybody, not only at county and Munster level, but also national
stage, and, in particular, for her role as an official in track and
field, and
cross-country.
Club Awards
We had two clubs who received awards; Leevale AC
received the club award for best Junior/Senior Indoor club, while
Bandon AC received
the award for Best Junior/Senior T&F club
Cork Athletics won six different awards:
- Juvenile Indoor County
- Senior/Master Indoor County
- Juvenile Track & Field County
- Senior/Master Track & Field County
- Juvenile Cross-Country County
- Senior Cross-Country County
It is great to see that cork have so much talent and with a lot
more to come. Congratulations to our Cork recipients for 2015, and I am
sure we will hear a lot more about these athletes in the future.
